Wannabe Coathanger Hanky

Coathanger Hanky is serving our family well. It was born as normal ski, but my grandfather decided that Ski Hanky isn't as good as it could good be when it would be a Coathanger. My grandfather split the ski and cut its size. After it he drilled a hole and made a hook from wire. Now we have a great coathanger and we are all happy except my little brother who used to ski, but not anymore.

Valdas (the thing that has no name in english)

Boiling potatos or soup on cooker needs special care. You have to be very alert that your stuff doesn't boil over or the cover doesn't fly away.

Many people have said that they are concerned about their cover flying to China or to some other country. It's obvious that my grandpa is also concerned about the issue because he is old and doesn't like to travel much. (He especially doesn't like eastern parts of the world).

To prevent the accident that could happen he reinvented valdas. Valdas (pronounce like Valdas in Valdas Adamkus) is a thing that is used to prevent overboiling and cover fly-away.

My grandfather took a piece of wood and a small rope and a drill. With drill he made a hole into his cooker. On the one end of the stick he put a hook and on the other he put rope. As you see the cover of the pot is still there and hasn't gone to China).

When asked, grandpa said:
"In the 20s and 30s in last century the thing - valdas was very popular among estonian households, i thought to give it a chance in todays modern world." - Grandpa
It remains unclear whether estonians were afraid of the cover flying to China or the valdas had some other practical task also.

Bruce the Brush

Once it had all: fame, money and ladies. This brush was used to wash back and it did it proudly and assiduously. But the granny-s warm and tender grip was too hard to handle for the brush and then - the handle was broken. Many tears were shed and the soon-to-be-thrown-away brush was forgotten. But there was a Man, a Man who faced the challenge and fixed the handle. The man was my grandpa. No we can happily wash our backs with it again.

SpongeBob SquarePants

One time we had a sponge that was the shape of tortoise. My little brother loved to wash with it. After years of exploiting the sponge tired and tortoise lost his head. And the feets. Because grandpa saw the throwed away feets he immediatly took these and sewed feets back to where they belong - to the sponge. No we can wash again with this sponge.
"Dear childred, you don't understand but i love the thing so much that you have been attached to." - grandpa words about the sponge -

About the blog

Hi,

I have a grandfather. Not a regular one, a different kind of. He likes to build things, or repair them. When i want something to throw away, because it's broken then he tries to repair things, no matter how much effort it needs or how valuable the things are. Because some things are funny what he has repaird i started to photograph them, and decided to put them on web.

Needless to say that my grandfather loves TV show : MacGyver, and has done lot of things that MacGyver has showed in his series.

best rgd,
Mihkel
